In Wentzville, Missouri, the Wentzville Fire Protection District responded to an early morning fire at a mobile home park off Lucille Street. They returned to the scene to put out hotspots caused by afternoon winds.
The firefighters were alerted to the fire after a 911 call at around 12:45 a.m. Upon arriving, they heard an explosion and tried to rescue anyone trapped inside.
Chief Steve Mosher of the Wentzville Fire Protection District said, “Passersby called 911 reporting smoke and flames, which led us to believe someone was still trapped inside. Our crews did everything possible to save them, but unfortunately, we did not have the outcome we hoped for. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”
The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the incident, which is believed to be accidental and caused by the improper use of smoking materials.
Chief Mosher emphasized the importance of having working smoke detectors in older homes like the one affected by the fire. He said, “They do save lives.”
