An off-duty O’Fallon officer and other Good Samaritans sprang into action to rescue a driver on Saturday after a medical emergency occurred. The quick-thinking actions of the off-duty officer and others were crucial in saving the driver’s life.
The driver experienced a medical emergency while in his vehicle on W Hwy 50 near Old Collinsville Road, according to the O’Fallon Police Department. A group of at least two other individuals, in addition to the off-duty officer, noticed that the man was unresponsive in his car and unable to unlock the vehicle. They broke a window of the vehicle, safely extracted the driver, and initiated CPR efforts.
O’Fallon officers and EMS teams arrived on the scene within minutes and took over life-saving measures. The rescued driver was promptly taken to a hospital and is currently conscious and breathing on his own.
The O’Fallon Police Department commended the Good Samaritans for their actions, stating, “Fantastic Job by everyone involved.” The department expressed gratitude to all those who chose to assist someone in need, even though not all of them could be identified. They hope that this message reaches the unknown heroes so they are aware that their actions played a vital role in saving a life that day.
