ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Many families in the St. Louis region continue to face food insecurities.
Despite the rainy Tuesday morning, volunteers showed up to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital to provide food for those in need.
“The weather slowed us down a bit today, but we’re now filling cars with food for those who need it,” said SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Ministry President Jake Brooks.
Starting as early as 7 a.m., cars lined up to take food back home to their families. The hospital has a valuable partnership with the St. Louis area food bank to help feed the hungry.
“The food bank supplies pallets of food, and our volunteer staff generously gives their time to distribute the food to the community,” explained Regional Director of Community Health for SSM Health Karen Bradshaw.
Each event serves around 150 households, totaling 300 people, as well as 150 to 180 children who receive food from these events.
The next event is scheduled for Oct. 15 at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital on South Grand Boulevard.
