ST. CHARLES — Two people are in custody after a planned drug deal ended in one of them shooting a man outside of a St. Charles city convenience store Tuesday night.
Tyrone Chase Jr., 27, and Mary Nolan, 29, both of St. Charles, have each been charged with one count of first-degree assault and first-degree accessory to a robbery. Chase Jr., who has prior convictions of second-degree burglary and receiving stolen property, was also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of armed criminal action.
Nolan was also charged with one count of being an accessory to armed criminal action. All of the charges are felonies.
According to police, Chase Jr., and Nolan plotted together to rob a man who had previously sold Nolan marijuana about a month ago. Nolan and the unidentified man had been corresponding for several months and arranged to meet at a St. Charles gas station around 7 p.m. on Tuesday under the guise that Nolan was going to purchase two ounces of marijuana from him, police say Nolan told them in an interview after being taken into custody.
Instead, when Nolan got into the man’s vehicle, she grabbed his wallet, cell phone and the marijuana and then ran from the vehicle. The man, who is not identified, chases after Nolan, grabbing her by her backpack, and forcing her to drop it on the ground. That is when Chase Jr., emerged from his hiding place behind the gas station and fired three shots toward the man.
At least one of the shots hit the man, who tried to run back to his vehicle before collapsing in the gas station parking lot. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.
