ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A sideshow event involving hundreds of people and cars resulted in several injuries, including a police officer, on Saturday. One person remains in critical condition, charges have been filed against one individual, and the Major Case Squad is conducting an investigation.
According to police, the event began in Bridgeton on Saturday night, with around 100 cars driving recklessly in an industrial area. Gunfire broke out when officers responded to the scene, injuring five people, one critically. The Major Case Squad is now handling the investigation of the incident.
The sideshow group then moved to New Halls Ferry Road near Interstate 270, shutting down a section of the road. This forced a local QuikTrip to close for 45 minutes.
During the event, an officer was injured while trying to arrest a man driving a blue Dodge Charger, who was allegedly driving recklessly without plates. The officer is expected to recover, while the driver, Antwon Hunter, 25, is facing multiple charges and is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
Local residents are calling for authorities to intervene and prevent such events from escalating. Don Amick, a concerned community member, emphasized the potential dangers of these situations, particularly for young people.
People promoting the sideshow on social media have organized another gathering at a car show and block party in Baden.
On a different note, Lovie’s Ice Cream & Eatery hosted a family-friendly block party supporting black-owned businesses, emphasizing collaboration and community support. Emilia Robertson, the owner of Shots by Emilia, highlighted the positive impact such events can have on the community.
Robertson, a Black business owner, emphasized the significance of supporting local businesses in the African American community. Tionna Scott, a St. Louis native and Roberson’s assistant, stressed the importance of unity and peace in the community.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shootings that occurred during the event to come forward and assist in the investigation.
