O’FALLON, Mo. – Locals of O’Fallon, Mo., should be aware of upcoming traffic disruptions due to lane reductions and full closure of the Bryan Road Bridge on Interstate 70, as announced by MoDOT.
“The exit and entrance ramps to and from I-70 at Bryan Road will remain open, but the bridge itself will be closed,” stated Tom Blair, district engineer at MoDOT.
MoDOT held a public event allowing residents to view the planned changes for 12 bridges along Interstate 70 in St. Charles County. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about detours and potential delays during the 10-week repair period.
“We are primarily focused on significant repairs to the driving surfaces of the bridges rather than full replacements,” Blair explained.
Lane closures will affect eight bridges on I-70 from Route K to Spencer Creek, as well as three bridges on Route 79 near I-70, including the northbound lanes over I-70. Some local business owners were anticipating improvements to address traffic issues.
“I was hoping for more solutions to traffic problems on Bryan Road, especially with St. Dominic’s daily school traffic,” said Josh Hausgen, owner of Refrigeration and Kitchen Solutions.
MoDOT selected the full closure option due to concerns that staged construction would extend beyond the summer break at St. Dominic, and the bridge at Bryan Road is too narrow to accommodate adequate turn lanes for tractor-trailers. Residents expressed satisfaction with the planned detours.
“I learned about the T.R. Hughes detour and gained a better understanding of my surroundings. I’m glad I attended the event today,” said Aaron Hemmer, a local resident.
The full closure of the Bryan Road Bridge at I-70 is set to commence on Monday, June 2 and is expected to be completed by August 15. For more information on closures and detours, click here.
