Memorial Day weekend in St. Louis brings a variety of activities. This year, one of the options is to enjoy a weekend series of baseball games between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium.
Before Friday night’s game, youth baseball teams were having a great time in the plaza around Ballpark Village, as the tournaments are drawing visitors this holiday weekend.
“We’re here for my son to play in the Perfect Game tournament in Chesterfield, Missouri,” said Meagan Gentry, an Arkansas resident.
Tina Berry traveled from Louisville, Ky., to watch her grandson play in a tournament, saying, “We came from a lot of rain, so if it rains, we’re used to it.”
The weekend also marks the start of the summer season at Grant’s Farm.
“Seven days a week begins today and lasts throughout the summer,” said Craig Thomas, Grant’s Farm curator of animals. “We also have Summer Nights on Friday and Saturday nights with a lot of fun activities.”
The weather was good enough on Friday for Grant’s Farm goats to make an appearance at Ballpark Village to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Grant’s Farm.
Another tradition for Memorial Day weekend is the St. Louis County Greek Festival at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Des Peres Road, featuring music, folk dancing, church tours, and authentic Greek cuisine. Organizers are prepared for any bad weather that may come.
“We stay open, rain or shine,” said Greg Simos, festival chairman.
