Every Memorial Day, Deb Creswell, a businesswoman from north St. Louis City, continues her tradition of honoring fallen soldiers and first responders while giving back to her community through free meal giveaways.
This Memorial Day was no different, with a constant flow of cars and people visiting Tripe City. Creswell estimates she will serve around 180 free meals on this day.
“God said, ‘Feed my people,’ and that’s what we do,” she expressed.
For the past 13 years, Creswell has dedicated herself to providing free meals on Memorial Day. She goes beyond just hot dogs, chicken, potato salad, beans, chips, and drinks, as she also stops by Gateway 180 at the end of the day to feed individuals at the shelter.
Known for her altruism, Creswell receives support and appreciation from the community. Kris Gamble stated, “I come by to support her because she’s always helping the community out, doing special deeds. Helping people in a time of need. She’s really important to us around here. We appreciate her.”
“Family,” added Sidney Caldwell, program director at Smooth 95.5 FM. “Kicking off the summer, stuff like that. It’s a good restaurant; a good day today.”
Creswell’s reputation for good food and goodwill continues to grow within the community she serves.
“I love my people and I’m going to keep sharing myself with my people,” she affirmed. “It’s a godly thing; it’s what he wants you to do. So maybe all of us should think on that level. If each one can help one, just think of where we would be.”
