The Missouri State Auditor’s Office finally met with Kim Gardner on Wednesday after months of trying to locate her.
ST. LOUIS — Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick met with former St. Louis circuit attorney Kim Gardner on Wednesday after several unsuccessful attempts to get in touch with her.
Trevor Fox, communications director for the Missouri State Auditor’s Office, confirmed the meeting but did not provide any further details.
In early May, Fitzpatrick held a press conference where he expressed his office’s struggle in locating Gardner and urged anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward.
The investigation into Gardner’s office began in 2021 under Fitzpatrick’s predecessor, Nicole Galloway, while Gardner was still in office.
After taking office in 2023, Fitzpatrick issued a subpoena to Gardner, alleging that her office only partially complied with the request for documents.
Shortly before heading to court to enforce the subpoena, Gardner resigned. However, Fitzpatrick made it clear that her resignation would not halt the investigation into her administration.
During a press conference in May, Fitzpatrick announced a delay in the final report due to the office’s inability to serve Gardner with a subpoena for her testimony. He mentioned uncovering evidence of “inappropriate expenditures” and “mismanagement” and emphasized the importance of Gardner answering questions related to these findings.
Fitzpatrick stated that the report, with or without Gardner’s involvement, would be released before the end of the year.
