Grandma’s Cookies was established in 1976 by Charlotte Thompson, who started selling cookies out of a former rectory building constructed in 1820. After Thompson retired in 2000, the business was taken over by her daughter, Nancy Ginnever, who ran it in a private bakery. The business was later passed down to Ginnever’s niece, Theresa Rubio, who reopened Grandma’s Cookies at the original rectory location in 2010.
Also included in the top 10 list is SugarBot Sweet Shop on Jackson Street in St. Charles, voted as the sixth-best cookie shop.
Other cookie shops recognized in the list are Please & Thank You in Indianapolis and Louisville, Katiebug’s Sips & Sweets in Oklahoma City, and Famous 4th Street Cookie Company in Philadelphia.
