Despite the rain, hundreds of festivalgoers gathered in St. Charles, Missouri on Friday to kick off the highly anticipated Oktoberfest celebration. Spirits were high as attendees prepared for a weekend of festivities.
“This is a fantastic time to come together with the community! It’s incredible! Come enjoy some beer, explore the crafts, and savor some delicious German food. It’s an amazing day, especially under this tent,” said Pam Cook, an attendee.
“I’m fascinated by German culture! I love it and I’m having a great time,” said Jay Orr, another attendee.
“It’s a lot of fun, despite the cold. We’re making the best of it and getting through it,” said Addie Blair & Addie Tubbs, attendees.
Although the rain didn’t dampen the energy, vendors lined the park with authentic German cuisine, handcrafted goods, and performers took the stage despite the weather.
“We have 80 food vendors offering a variety of cuisines, crafts, a children’s area, and adult games like barrel racing and stein racing. We have something for everyone,” said Justin Faust, St. Charles Oktoberfest Board Member.
Fries Over Guys, a food vendor, mentioned the foot traffic despite the rain, saying, “It’s been good. Everybody’s been welcoming and I think it’s going to continue.”
For those seeking a premium experience, a VIP section is available with a ceramic stein, all-you-can-eat buffet, a photo wall, and three free beers. The festivities continue on Saturday from 10 am to 11 pm and wrap up on Sunday at 5 pm.
While some events like the Rockwood High School parade and Billy Joel’s concert at Busch Stadium were postponed due to the weather, Oktoberfest continued with a packed schedule of performances, food, and cultural events. The committee promises an unforgettable weekend.
