After serving as principal at Fort Zumwalt North Middle School for a decade, Damon Burkhart is moving on to become the principal at Hope High starting July 1.
Burkhart has been part of the district since 2005, beginning his career as a Physical Education and Health teacher at South High. He then taught at West Middle for five years before transitioning to administration as an assistant principal at North Middle in 2013.
Hope High, where Burkhart will now lead, accommodates up to 120 students who are working towards graduation in an alternative setting with smaller class sizes, flexible school hours, and additional support to help them achieve their diploma.
“Hope High provides an amazing opportunity to connect with students on a personal level and offer them the necessary support,” Burkhart says. “I am excited to engage with students, families, and staff members.”
Outside of school, Burkhart enjoys spending time with his wife and three young sons, coaching youth sports on the sidelines. “I cherish the time I spend with my boys,” he says. He also has a passion for music. “I have a diverse taste in music and enjoy vinyl records as well as attending music concerts.”
Burkhart will officially assume his new role at Hope High on July 1.
