Missouri is one of 16 states in the country offering sales tax-exempt shopping for back-to-school items, while Illinois will not have a tax-exempt weekend.
Following the passing of Senate Bill 153 in 2021, municipalities in Missouri can no longer opt out of the sales tax holiday. Additionally, the Department of Revenue specifies that tax-exempt items purchased online also qualify for the tax-free weekend.
