The St. Charles County’s Pet Adoption Center (PAC) is hosting a weekend event to offer free adoptions in an effort to relieve pressure on the shelter, where the dog kennels have been full for weeks.
On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, the PAC is waiving fees for adopting cats and dogs, thanks to the support from national pet care companies Mars Petcare and Royal Canin. Currently, there are over 70 dogs in the kennels and temporary foster homes.
Sara Evers, Acting Director of the Department of Public Health, which operates the PAC, emphasized the importance of this promotion stating, “Right now, our dog kennels are full, so this promotion and partnership could not be timelier. Without financial barriers to adoption, more families can consider bringing a pet into their loving home, helping us alleviate shelter overcrowding.”
For those considering getting a new pet, this promotion offers a great opportunity to start the journey of pet parenthood without the burden of additional fees or expenses.
In addition to waived fees, adopters will receive a welcome kit from Mars pet care brands, including a variety of food and treats, veterinary and accessory coupons, and toys to strengthen the bond with their new pet.
The adoption costs are covered by Mars and its pet care brands as part of the 16th annual Mars Pet Adoption Weekend, with the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center being one of the 18 participating shelters across the country. In total, the event will cover over $100,000 in pet adoption fees.
The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center is located at 4850 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters and will be open Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit sccmo.org/Pets or call 636-949-7387.
