HOUSTON – Just over two years since making his MLB debut, Nolan Gorman is experiencing a remarkable power surge that few have seen in St. Louis Cardinals history.
Gorman had a multi-home run performance in the Cardinals’ series opener on Monday against the Houston Astros, increasing his team-leading total to 13 home runs this season. Both of his home runs came against the renowned Justin Verlander.
In the last 19 games since May 12, Gorman has hit nine home runs, averaging one home run every other game during that period.
Additionally, Gorman has hit five home runs in the past week alone, surpassing 50 in his career with the Cardinals.
Within the last week, he has climbed 15 spots on the Cardinals’ all-time home run leaderboard. Gorman’s 54 home runs tie him with Darrell Porter for the 56th position in Cardinals history, as he has surpassed the likes of Frankie Frisch, Gary Gaetti, and Marcell Ozuna, among others, during this recent impressive stretch.
Furthermore, Gorman has achieved eight multi-home run games in his Cardinals career, tying him for 16th all-time and trailing just behind Matt Holliday and Yadier Molina.
Moreover, Gorman is only the 12th player to hit at least 13 home runs in the first 58 games of two seasons while in a Cardinals uniform, accomplishing this milestone on Monday in his first two complete seasons back-to-back.
Additionally, Gorman is among three players who have hit at least 40 home runs in a Cardinals uniform before turning 24 (May 10). By that point, he had reached 43 home runs, placing him in a select group with Albert Pujols and Joe Medwick.
Prior to the 2024 season, Gorman expressed to FOX 2 that he values his power and aims to enhance his overall performance using his strength.
“It’s a valuable trait, but my focus is on making solid contact, taking quality at-bats for the team, and contributing in any way I can,” said Gorman in an interview with FOX 2 during spring training.
If Gorman matches his home run total from last season (27), he will move up in the franchise’s Top 50 home run leaders, surpassing Cardinals Hall-of-Famers Red Schoendienst and Willie McGee, among others.
The Cardinals (28-30) will face the Houston Astros in two more road games before returning home for a seven-game series, starting Thursday against the Colorado Rockies.
