One man was arrested by police following a brawl at an amateur boxing showcase in St. Charles County, Missouri over the weekend.
The event took place at the Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles on Saturday night.
Samuel Thompson Jr., 46, was taken into custody by St. Charles Police and charged with interference with law enforcement and resisting arrest. Thompson is believed to have been the instigator of the brawl.
The showcase was organized by Box Culture Midwest, who rented the venue. The organization released a statement regarding the incident:
Box Culture Midwest has a history of hosting successful amateur boxing events, featuring talented fighters from the Saint Louis and Midwest region. We take pride in our professionalism and the sportsmanship displayed by our participants, with no altercations occurring outside the ring. Our boxers, events, and staff embody respect and discipline.
While boxing is a sport filled with passion, recent events were marred by the actions of an individual, overshadowing the talent and competition on display. This behavior does not align with the values of Box Culture Midwest and the boxing community we strive to build. Steps have been taken to address the situation and prevent future incidents.
Our commitment remains unwavering in creating a safe, respectful, and professional environment for athletes, families, and fans to enjoy boxing. We appreciate the continued support from our followers, fighters, and supporters as we maintain the high standards that define our brand and provide opportunities for the next generation of boxers in Saint Louis.
