JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. – The 2025 New Year blizzard has caused hundreds of area school closings, disrupting schedules across the region.
Instead of returning to routine on Jan. 6 as expected, Missouri students are facing the storm’s icy aftermath, forcing some districts to use up their allotted snow days for the year or switch to AMI learning.
Kevin Pope, the Festus R-VI School District’s coordinator of communications and special projects, emphasized the importance of student safety during these challenging times.
With freezing temperatures and hazardous roads, safety is a top priority as another storm is expected this weekend, especially for students commuting on city and rural roads. As of Wednesday night, no clear timeline has been provided for when classes will resume in each district.
