ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The City of St. Charles recently initiated another one-day crackdown on drivers speeding through neighborhoods.
Friday marked the second implementation of the city’s Zero Tolerance Program, where the department deployed over 20 officers to discourage speeding. Mayor Dan Borgmeyer emphasized the need to address the issue, stating, “Tickets were starting to be 40 mph, 50 mph, 60 mph in neighborhoods—that’s unacceptable with kids on the street.” He further explained, “We came up with this no-tolerance, one-day program at random. It might be two days a month; it might be seven days a month—we’re going to do it until we get the people’s attention.”
Borgmeyer mentioned that during the previous enforcement day, 81 tickets were issued for speeding, stop sign violations, and some temporary tags.
“I think the people who received tickets will be more cautious on the street. I believe it raised everyone’s awareness a little bit,” Borgmeyer said.
Police Chief Ray Juengst assured the community that the program does not hinder officers’ ability to respond to other calls.
