ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – The retirement ceremony for the beloved K-9 officer Bonnie in St. Charles County was a heartwarming event, with a large crowd showing up to celebrate her years of service.
Now, Bonnie is looking forward to a relaxing life as a retired dog. She will enjoy walks outside, naps in the sun, head scratches, and treats in her well-deserved retirement.
Before starting this new chapter, Bonnie took one final lap around the building with her school resource officer.
“Today is her retirement day,” said Detective Brigid Oldani of the St. Charles County Police Department. “Bonnie has served for eight and a half years, mostly in cyber crimes, but she transitioned to schools last year.”
On her last day at Becky-David Elementary School, a large group gathered to bid Bonnie farewell, including students, teachers, and law enforcement officials from St. Charles County.
“These kids love her so much,” Oldani added. “Many of them rely on her every day. It’s been a tough decision. She will still be part of my family, but as a retired pet. As a K-9 officer, you spend more time with your partner than your family.”
Fortunately, Oldani will have a new partner, a six-month-old K-9 officer on the way to join the team.
