ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The City of St. Charles is introducing a new initiative to address speeding drivers in the area, especially in subdivisions.
It’s called the Zero Tolerance of Speeding Program, which involves the entire police department working together to tackle speeding on a daily basis.
“We’re seeing drivers going 35, 45, or even up to 60 miles per hour in subdivisions. That is unacceptable,” Mayor Dan Borgmeyer stated. “With 363 miles of roads in St. Charles, we can’t monitor all of them, so the chief and I have devised a program called Zero Tolerance. On random days, the entire police force will be responsible for traffic duties.”
Police Chief Ray Juengst mentioned that a day dedicated to the program could involve 35 to 40 officers.
“We are initiating this tomorrow, June 1st, but the actual implementation day will be undisclosed…it’s not something we will announce. We want people to be vigilant daily, so this will serve as a warning,” Chief Juengst said.
Officials have stated that the program may occur once a month or every day of the month. The initiative will continue through August.
