ST. PETERS, Mo. – The St. Peters Police Department confirmed their awareness of an arson case in Puerto Rico allegedly involving a local resident based on multiple social media posts.
A spokesperson from the department informed FOX 2 that Puerto Rican authorities are leading the arson investigation. While the St. Peters Police Department has been in touch with law enforcement in Puerto Rico, they have not been requested to provide any assistance as of Saturday.
Reports from Puerto Rican news sources suggest that a tourist allegedly vandalized and set fire to a hotel’s restaurant area, resulting in guest evacuations. Three establishments were reportedly targeted, with one owner accusing a woman of igniting gasoline in front of a restaurant.
A report from Puerto Rico’s Metro.Pr news outlet has not confirmed any arrests, warrants, or pending charges in connection with the case.
The St. Peters Police Department was made aware through social media posts of an alleged arson case involving a St. Peters resident. However, specific details regarding the time and location of the incident linked to the resident could not be verified by FOX 2.
“It is crucial to note that this incident occurred in Puerto Rico, so the St. Peters Police Department does not have jurisdiction in this matter. Our department stands ready to assist Puerto Rican authorities if needed,” stated the department in a release on Saturday.
The St. Peters police department clarified that, as of Saturday, no local arrest warrants have been issued for the resident implicated in the social media posts.
