ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly attempting to lure a child away from a school bus stop in St. Charles.
The St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged Michelle Cady, 45, with one count of attempted child kidnapping as part of the ongoing investigation. A warrant for her arrest was served on Tuesday, as per Missouri court records.
Authorities state that Cady made multiple attempts to lure the child away from the bus stop until a witness intervened, potentially preventing a kidnapping. The incident occurred at an undisclosed time on Monday near an apartment complex on San Juan Drive.
Court documents obtained by FOX 2 indicate that Cady first noticed the victim in the apartment complex hallway and tried to engage in conversation. When the victim ignored her and headed towards the bus stop, Cady reportedly tried to lure them away by offering water and asking them to come with her.
As the victim approached the bus stop, an adult witness sitting in a car with her child noticed Cady’s actions and the child’s response. The witness intervened and instructed Cady to leave the child alone.
Court documents state that Cady then lashed out at the witness, using inappropriate language and making threatening gestures towards the witness’s child in the car.
Upon arrest, a judge ordered no bond for Cady, according to online Missouri court records.
